Plantation Softwoods
There are two main species of pine which are grown in WA plantation, radiata and pinaster (or maritime) pine. These pines are not native to WA, but have adapted well to WA conditions.
Most of the plantations are owned by the government though there is a significant plantation resource which is privately owned.
Pine is used in structural applications, furniture and pallet making. As native hardwoods are increasingly value-added, pine is becoming more widely used in framing for houses.
